Antonius Streichardt (1936-2013)
for flute and mandolin
level of difficulty: medium
With the present "Aphorismen" Streichardt wrote a composition for two instruments in an unusual cast. The flute has always occupied an excellent position in chamber music. The role of the mandolin was much more modest, although since the middle of the eighteenth century up to the present time even eminent composers had been delighted with charming works. It was only through the development of the last decades (for example the establishment at the universities) that this instrument, which was decent in comparison, gained in importance again. Streichardt supported this development with his composition. Even if the radiant sound dominates the flute, the mandolin plays an essential role for the sound character, construction of the composition and the musical development of the work. The voice of the mandolin hasn’t the pure function to accompaniment, but plays with the flute on a comparable level.
